Oromo celebrates “Irreechaa” the beginning of Spring
(A4O, 5 October 2015) Irreechaa festival in Oromia marks the beginning of spring, the communities get a chance to showcase their traditions.
Millions of people have flocked to central Oromia to celebrate one of the country’s largest cultural events.
The Irreechaa festival is a highlight in the life of the Gadaa-Oromo socio-political system.
And officials are hoping it will soon win global recognition. CCTV’s Girum Chala reports.
Oromo Celebrates Irreechaa for 6409 years
(A4O) For millions of Oromo in Oromia, October 4 was unique.
Wearing colorful dresses, they wore a big smile while taking a break from learning about their thanksgiving day, Irreechaa.
Irreechaa festival is certainly unique for new generation, but more importantly, it gives them a real understanding and appreciation of the Oromo culture.
This year, Oromo celebrates Irreechaa for 6409 years with unshakable determination and resistance.
