In a decisive move underscoring Australia’s enduring compassion, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has confirmed the nation will maintain its annual humanitarian intake of 20,000 refugees – a decision widely hailed by settlement leaders as a beacon of hope in a world grappling with unprecedented displacement.

Addressing media this afternoon, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Australia’s pledge to offer safe haven to those fleeing conflict and persecution, pushing back against any notion that generosity must yield to insecurity.

“In maintaining Australia’s humanitarian intake, Prime Minister Albanese has responded with both compassion and confidence in the Australian people,” said Violet Roumeliotis, CEO of national refugee resettlement provider SSI. “He has recognised that Australia can remain both secure and generous, and that our response to the world’s most vulnerable people is a reflection of our national character.”
